Wirebike allows rowing on the road

wirebike 01

Finalist of the International Bicycle Design Competition, the “Wirebike” by Polish designer Michal Gorzynski is a three-wheeled bike with an innovatory propulsion and steering system that allows rowing on the road. Intended toward young bikers, the adjustable bike makes use of a cable and ratchet system to propel it with your feet like a rowing boat. Easy to glide, the bike features a sliding seat that pushes both legs forward to drive the rear wheel, while one leg is pulled back to turn it on the curves. Connecting the front axle to the back wheel with a cable, the Wirebike also integrates a spring-loaded ratchet mechanism, which coils up the cable after the rider bend his or her legs and drives the back wheel as the legs are extended, moving the bike forward with minimum effort.
