Walklet: REBAR converts extra roadways into public spaces

walklet1

Drawing inspiration from its own creation the PARK(ing) Day, REBAR is back again with yet another public space design to serve people by extending the pedestrian area into the parking lane. Hailed as the “Walklet”, this new concept shows way to extending and maintaining new public space. The stylish and inspiring module can be presently seen at 22nd and Bartlett Streets in San Francisco, where it is turning many heads around. Known to construct installations for art, design and activism in everyday life, this interdisciplinary studio has developed a modular, flexible sidewalk extension system. This innovative system takes up the extra roadway space to give new forms of urban infrastructure. Each three-foot wide Walklet module comes fully assembled and gives you the convenience to set it up using minimal tools and construction efforts.
