The Defence by Lulin Ding is an extraordinary umbrella that best exists in human ideation with zero tangibility. Inspired by the song “Electric Tears” by Buckethead, the umbrella which supports an MP3 player, creates an imaginary bubble of personal space in public while the user reflects and reminisces over life experiences. The umbrella starts playing music the moment you step out in the rain. The simple design uses a combination of soulful music and rain’s cleansing aspect to facilitate the rejuvenation of the human soul and its reconnection with nature.
