After witnessing some of the most unique and technologically embellished structure designs, now it’s time to go spiritual with the Indian Pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010. Drawing inspiration from an ancient Buddhist monument, the Sanchi Stupa, built in the Maurya Dynasty (321-187 BC) by King Ashoka, the JWT Design Company has come up with a unique structure design, under the theme “cities of harmony,” which is spread over a 4,000 square meter area. Generating energy from solar and wind power, the dome structure (partly build by bamboo) gives a peep into the transition of Indian cities from ancient to the modern times. Accommodating a shopping arcade to demonstrate and sell a wide variety of products from various regions of India, together with a food plaza to serve traditional Indian delicacies, the dome also provides space to grow Indian herbs, creating a mini India at the Shanghai Expo.
