Russia’s Orbital Technologies to build a hotel in orbit

Space Hotel

The concept of space travel is gaining momentum now-a-days. Various projects, related to space vehicle for carrying tourists in the space, are already underway in different parts of the world. Already, people with money to spend are going to space to quench their thirst for adventure. For the moment, the number of people going to space is very less since the means of going on the space journey is also quite limited. But imagine a day when more and more people will go to the space and stay there for a few days to have a more rounded space experience.

Keeping this in mind, Russia has recently unveiled a plan to build a space hotel at 217 miles above the earth’s surface. The plan was announced by a Russian firm named Orbital Technologies. This floating hotel in space would have four cabins in which seven space tourists can be accommodated at one time. Large glass windows would enable the guests to have a breathtaking view of the earth below. Since it is being built keeping tourists in mind, the space hotel would offer a much more comfortable living environment to the guests compared to the International Space Station (ISS) which is currently used by astronauts for carrying out various space explorations.

The furniture in this hotel would be made keeping the various factors of space living in mind. For instance, beds have been designed to keep up with the lack of gravity in space. The showers in this hotel would be fully sealed to prevent water from seeping into undesired places. Apart from alcohol, all types of food items will be served to the tourists. In fact, the food items would be prepared here on earth and would be sent to the space station by a rocket. They would be reheated in a microwave before being served to the guests.

This facility would be equipped with instruments that would recycle waste water as well as instruments that would filter the air inside the space station keeping it devoid of harmful bacteria and other elements. There is also a plan to use this as an emergency facility for astronauts serving in the ISS.

One would have to shell out 100,000 pounds to spend five days in this space hotel over and above the half a million pounds needed for the journey. So this would not be a place for the budget travelers. But if you have the money power then it might just be a worthy experience for you. The Russian Soyuz rocket would be used for ferrying tourists to and from this hotel.
