Rippling apartments in NY by SOM

Slump or no slump, New York is going full steam ahead with new apartment buildings. Another one to this ever-growing list is Toren – a 38-storey skyscraper being built at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Flatbush Avenue Extension. Green and artistically appealing, the newest building on the block is wonderfully rendered, at least in the designs. Clad in silver-blue aluminum and glass, the façade is all ripples from distance. Close up, and it seems that aluminum is dripping off the shimmering glass surface. There is a look of abstraction about the otherwise normally shaped Toren. It is being built by Skidmore Owings and Merrill’s New York office. Toren will contain 240 apartments in total – including 0ne, two and three-bedroom units. In addition, there will be 32 penthouses, ground floor retail and fitness center, a swimming pool, two-level parking space, a library/lounge and 24-hour concierge. The price of the condos will range from $350,000 to $1.7 million. The builders are pushing in with a hard marketing effort and why not, Toren is aesthetically gratifying and is simultaneously luxuriously furnished.
