Do you like your golf balls sparkling and pristine before you tee off? Of course you do! And you ain’t the first member of the country club to have fallen in love with the gloss of the little white golf balls. But did you know that the staff at the golf course really has to work very hard to ensure you get a shiny spotless white ball everytime, and that the ball washers they have actually use lots and lots of freshwater for the process? We bet you didn’t. And if you’re a planet-ista (read: a planet lover who’s not a hippy!) you’d possibly even be outraged at the reckless waste of water. But before you worry your pretty little head, take a look at this fab new golf ball washer created by designer Tim Meredith.

Specifically designed to collect and re-use rain water, the Rainman Golf Ball Washer (no relation to the movie character) is the first golf ball washer that is 100 percent eco-friendly. The design of the Rainman Golf Ball Washer has been created around the classic image of the sport as a leisurely pursuit of the rich and famous.

The intricate-looking faux wood construction of the golf ball washer allows it to break away from the range of drab and industrial looking golf ball washers. The Rainman Golf Ball Washer is designed to collect rainwater naturally and comes with a unique filtration system as well. The saucer-shaped collection dish at the top allows the washer to collect the required amount of rainwater and the water can then be filtered as it travels inside the collection cylinder.

If the collected rainwater exceeds the collection cylinder’s capacity, it simply is redirected towards an opening at the bottom of the pole and let out to be soaked into the ground naturally. Since most golf courses in the world are located in areas that receive ample natural rainfall, the Rainman Golf Ball Washer allows these facilities to lessen their dependence on the grid.
