One of the foremost reasons why people buy custom-made products is for the exclusivity that they bring. Needless to say, this feature carries a price tag, a hefty one more often than not. But nature is different. It delivers something unique with everything. For instance, rarely do we see two stones that look exactly alike. This is the reasoning that has gone into a very novel concept for a media player tagged “pebble.” As the name suggests, the media player will be shaped like a pebble and would be quite portable. Where this concept turns a new leaf is in delivering something inimitable – a different shape, size or color – in each one of its iteration. No two players will look the same, and this surely would satiate those looking to stand apart from the crowd.
Mass-production of such a concept would be difficult to achieve. As the designer says, this would have great implications for consumption experience and “human-product relationship”. Diversity that goes beyond just color is food for thought for many designers I hope.
