Peacock-shaped potato lantern

potato peacock
Looking at this potato peacock lantern you would think it’s created by one of those crazy designers with a creative block, wouldn’t you? But this 2.4 meter-high veggie lantern is actually made for delivering a special message. The UN has announced that 2008 is the International Year of Potatoes and this lantern. on display at a departmental store in Shenyang, Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, actually promotes the theme of “promoting food safety and alleviating poverty.” Very clever. But why waste so many potatoes on making a fake peacock when you want to alleviate hunger and poverty? Food for thought, isn’t it?
