Replacing the traditional 40-watt bulb with a low power, long lasting bulb, GE is all set to release an omnidirectional LED bulb that will just use 9 watts of energy and save about 77% energy in comparison to its traditional counterparts. Distributing equal light in all directions, the new LED bulb generates 450 lumens of light output and lasts for 17 years, that is 25 times more than a 40 watt incandescent bulb. Eradicating harmful mercury, the latest omnidirectional LED bulb comes with the ability to run cooler than other lightbulbs. Priced at $40 to $50, the low energy bulb is expected to reach stores by 2011.
