Miniature bed sculptures by Leah Poller

A true artist never takes rest. An artist’s imagination is running wild even when he sleeps. This proves accurate in the case of sculptor Leah poller. Leah Poller’s The One Hundred and One Bed Collection got the first light of imagination while she was confined to a bed rest.

When Leah was confined to a long bed rest as a result of some injury, she just refused to let her imaginations take rest. Her restless nature resulted in a series of miniature bed sculptures that are priceless. The one featured here is the Water Bed. The Bed of Roses, Ocean Bed and Bed time Snack are some of the other beds that grace Leah’s collection.

The miniature beds are made out of bronze using the lost wax technique. First the entire sculpture is made out of wax, then molten bronze is poured into the wax cast which gives way due to the heat of the bronze. After the object is taken out and cooled off, it is made smooth using a grinder and then a final polish is done. The sculpture is then colored using acids and pigments. Finally, a blowtorch is applied to complete the process.

What started as a mild idea in the bed has become a priceless collection!
