LightSync: Towards better team management

When leading a large team of employees at work, a constant worry for the team lead is to keep the morale of the employees high. Constant communication is one of the solutions but it is time consuming. Inspired by the thought of enabling constant communication amongst employees, Philip Gordon, developed the LightSync. The device works as a viable option of communication amongst a team sitting in remote locations.

A technical prototype, the device functions as a coded communicator within the team. The color that the device shows at any moment defines the mood of an employee. An employee is prompted to shake the device from left to right in order to set the color. Once the color is set, the same is available for viewing by other employees at the touch of a button. The device sits in a case made of silicone rubber and polyurethane. An Arduino Mini micro-controller controls the Lightsync. The high-powered RGB LED response is managed by an accelerometer. The information is shared between individual units via wireless connections powered by GSM or GPRS systems.

A brainchild of Philip Gordon, the product design was developed at the University of Dundee. The University of Dundee and the product design students worked towards developing the prototype. The device can prove to be a boon for team management.
