French architect and designer Jean Prouvé’s work is on display at the exhibition, Jean Prouvé ‘The Poetics of the Technical Object’ at the Design Museum in London. The exhibition is open for public view from December 7, 2007 to April 13, 2008. The Design Museum has collaborated with Tate Modern to showcase Jean’s unique furniture designs, architecture, films and photographs. A model that exhibits a unique 1950’s colonial West African house that was designed by Jean has been put up as an extension of the exhibition.

Born in Paris, in 1901, Jean Prouvé was skilled as a blacksmith. He opened his own workshop in 1923 and designed wooden and metal furniture. He was conferred with ‘Légion d’Honneur’ honor and left designing furniture to become a known architect. Fashion photographer Ben Rayner has captured the reconstruction of this modular pre-fabricated house in his camera. To view the reconstruction of Jean’s house click here.
