Hevruta Hituta: Chessboard that represents Jewish social hierarchy

We here at The Design Blog have already covered some of the most exquisite chessboards in the past, but the “Hevruta Hituta” from Israel is a rather unusual chessboard that stands apart from the rest. Designed by the Studio Armadillo, the new chessboard is inspired by the headgear worn by Jewish people. Featuring two variations of gray knolls, the three-dimensional board comes with 32 hand-knitted skullcaps (Kipah-srugah) with diverse patterns worn by pawns according to their rank or status in the game. Everything about the Hevruta Hituta chessboard seems classy, apart from the fact that it cannot be produced at large scale, for it requires require some extra skills, effort and time to create hand-knitted skullcaps.
