Mapuguaquén: Clay speakers become a sculpture for modern spaces

By Naresh KumarChauhan   /Feb 26 2010

An entry at the Designboom/ MACEF competition, the “Mapuguaquén” (meaning “sound of the earth”) by Chilean designer Pablo Ocqueteau is a speaker system that is made in clay on a traditional potter's wheel. Based on the theme “the intelligent hand,” the speaker system looks more like a piece of art than a gadget, decorating contemporary spaces. The crafty speakers following a conventional method of fabrication not only help in sustaining the environment, but also lend a helping hand to support the traditional art of pottery.
