One of the most instantly recognizable signs of an evening spent with friends indoors is the bum-print on the couch and the “cup-rings” left on the coffee table left by cups with cool drinks perspiring or other drinks spilling slightly over the brim. Looking at the train wreck that formerly served as your living room can be a surprisingly satiating feeling for people who love to host their friends and relatives though cleaning up after a party or a gathering is not the most pleasant aspects of socializing. However, for people that enjoy the nostalgic value of these tell-tale signs of a well-spent evening, Australian-born, UK-based designer Jay Watson has created a touch-and-heat sensitive living room set called ‘Linger A Little Longer’.

Like its name suggests, the set promises the sings of usage to literally linger on linger after the person using it has moved away from it. Crafted in solid chestnut timber with a special thermochromatic black finish, the furniture retains an x-ray-like ghostly watermark from a heated utensil or even a body part in contact with the table and bench set after the user or utensil touches its surface. The print then lingers on for quite some time exposing the wood below and slowly goes back to its black finish as the temperature of the print slowly cools back to the same temperature as the rest of the finish.
Definitely not an item for people with cleaning addictions, phobias related to supernatural elements, germs and disorder, and ailments like OCD, the ‘Linger A Little Longer’ table and bench set is a must have for people who like to leave their mark (literally) on a gathering or people who do not like a pleasant evening to be forgotten as soon as the company leaves. Though the designer does not confirm it on his site, we’re sure a simple wipe cloth drenched in room temperature water would be sufficient to quickly erase all the marks off the surface of the set.
Launched at 100% Design, the 200cm long x 84cm wide x 73cm high table is offered with a 180cm long x 29cm wide x 43cm high bench and the designer also offers the table in a low-height version that measures 120cm long x 80cm wide x 42cm high. The designer offers the table and bench set in all kinds of timber and finishes that are customized to the customer’s request and shipping takes 6-8 weeks upon placement of order.
