City Speed Turbine harnesses wind power produced by the speed of vehicles

Winner of the Mini Design Award Winner 2009, the “City Speed Turbine” by Italian designer Giacomo Sanna is a modular wind turbine that can produce energy with the flow of air produced by the speed of vehicles. Conceived as a sequence of strings to be inserted in various urban settings, the wind turbines sustainable energy used to power the LED lights installed within the arch structure to illuminate streets at night. Featuring huge blades to convert mechanical energy generated by the movement of vehicles, using a system of generators into electric energy, the speed turbine stores electricity in a battery to power the low-energy lighting system. Presenting a flexible and environmentally friendly design, the City Speed Turbines offer a new way of harnessing wind power to illuminate future cities with renewable energy.
