Coffee or Dessert: The most senseless piece of tableware ever

To himself, each person is the most intelligent, most beautiful and most perfect specimen of his species. Unfortunately there are designers in this world who keep coming up with things that make you feel so damn stupid because you just cant figure out a real use for them. Just like this piece of tableware called Coffee or Dessert. Developed by designer Thijs Biersteker of Thijs & Karian, the concept basically comprises of an elaborate coaster with a space for placing your dessert at the bottom and the coffee cup on a stand protruding up in the middle.

The ceramic stand keeps the heat of the coffee away from the cold chocolate mousse and you get to keep both the items together as well. And it is at this point where I really start to not get the whole concept. I mean don’t we already have the cup and saucer system for that purpose? And why would we want to have hot coffee and cold mousse together anyway? I think I seriously need to take an IQ test before attempting to make sense of this thing again!
