City of Chungju gets UN Peace Park in Ban Ki-Moon’s honor

Honoring the current General Secretary of the United Nations Organization and native of Chungju, Ban Ki-Moon, the City of Chungju is set for the UN Peace Park project, which will be located in the northern part of the Natural Park Tangeumdae on the banks of the Namhangang river. Comprising 8 stories and 1 basement floor, the UN Memorial Hall also includes a 1,500 seat auditorium, which offers a mesmerizing view of the Tangeumdae Natural Park (to the outside direction), together with auxiliary conference spaces. An ellipsoidal building with a maximal diameter of 60m, the landmark structure spiraling upwards accommodates an exhibition in the continuous ramp, to elucidate the history of the United Nations till date, which ends with the Gallery of the General Secretaries. Depicting the city of Chungju in miniature in the heart of the site, the structure is centered around the United Nations mission, the human being and the form of the UN globe, which is placed in an orchard of 192 apple trees to represent the member states of the UN. The UN Peace Park project will truly be a landmark not just for Chungju city, but for the entire nation as well.
