Brooklyn’s Aquarium coup d’état fails miserably

Last Thursday night Borough President Marty Markowitz presented his “State of the Borough” report in which he lay down a revolutionary proposal of wresting the control over the New York Aquarium away from non-profit Wildlife Conservation Society which currently runs the Bronx zoo along with Central Park Zoo and Prospect Park Zoo. However the proposed Coup D’état fell flat on its face as a city source rubbished the idea saying, “It’s not something we’re considering.” Too bad for Markowitz, but hey it has inspired a lot of pun in the local press with quotes like “Brooklyn’s aquarium coup d’état sleeps with fishes” providing plenty of entertainment to the general public. But Daily News commentator Jotham Sederstrom took the cake with this rib-ticking observation: “A plan floated by Brooklyn Borough President Marty for the city to take control of the New York Aquarium is dead in the water.” Oh to be able to laugh at another’s expense!
