Future Systems’ futuristic home is fairly sustainable

The word home brings to our mind a nice woody, warm place that we feel most comfortable in, but here is a home design from Future Systems that will stun almost anyone. This futuristic home that is designed to be highly sustainable looks more like some kind of aircraft than a home. For starters, this home basically is one big steel structure that has walls made of glass and a roof made up of plywood. But i don’t understand how glass, steel and plywood make this home sustainable. Rather the home resemble the tall, glass and steel monstrosities that dominate our cityscapes.

Though the outer structure of this home doesn’t look too sustainable, Future Systems have done their bit to make the energy consumption by using a ground source heat pump and plenty of glazing to keep the home’s occupants warm during the winter months. The home also has an overhang at one corner to prevent it from getting too hot during summer. This in turn will reduce the need for continuous air conditioning, thus saving power. Finally, you have a roof which is shaped to maximize grey water harvesting. With all these features, this home is more of a mixed bag when it comes to sustainability, but nevertheless is a bit more planet friendly than existing homes.
